What is Juvederm Voluma XC?

Juvederm Voluma is a Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a naturally occurring, hydrating substance found in your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume.

What is Juvederm Voluma XC indicated for?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is indicated for deep (subcutaneous and/or supraperiosteal) injection for cheek augmentation to correct age-related volume deficit in the mid-face in adults over the age of 21.*

What makes Juvederm Voluma XC different from other dermal fillers?

Juvederm Voluma is the first and only FDA-approved filler to correct age-related volume loss in the midface. Juvederm Voluma differs from the other fillers in the Juvederm family in that it is a markedly thick, robust product for injection in the deep dermis to treat age-related facial loss.* Voluma achieves this viscosity through modifying the Hylacross technology and using low molecular weight HA, which enables more effective cross-linking. This produces an extremely highly viscous product that can produce a lifting effect while remaining smooth and cohesive.*

How long does Juvederm Voluma last?

With optimal treatment, results may last up to 2 years.*

Is the treatment painful?

Patients treated with Juvederm Voluma may experience slight pain as with any injectable treatment. The use of a topical anesthetic makes the treatment extremely tolerable.

Is allergy testing needed?

No allergy testing is needed for JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC. However, if you have experienced an allergy to lidocane in the past, inform your provider as treatment might not be appropriate for you.

Can all skin types be treated?

All skin types can typically be treated.* However, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC is contraindicated for patients with severe allergies, manifested by a history of anaphylaxis or history or presence of multiple severe allergies, and a history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins or lidocaine.

Can men be treated?

Men can absolutely be treated. Both men and women can suffer from aging associated volume loss in the face. As such, this treatment is appropriate for men and women looking to restore a volume to the face.*

Does Juvederm Voluma require any special training or techniques?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC should only be used by providers who have appropriate experience and who are knowledgeable about facial anatomy and the product for use in deep injection for cheek augmentation.

Can you combine Juvederm Voluma with other treatments?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC can be combined with many of the other cosmetic treatments offered in our office for a holistic approach to treating facial rejuvenation. Botox treatments can be combined with Voluma treatments. Botox is more suitable for treating facial wrinkles in the upper face around the eye and forehead areas.* Additionally, while Juvederm Voluma is intended for adding volume to the cheek area, for smoothing out skin surface texture, we recommend use of topical retinoids, laser skin resurfacing or chemical peels.*

How is the recovery?

The recovery from JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injections is very manageable. Patients may experience bruising around the injection site, which can be concealed with makeup. Additionally swelling may persist for about 1 – 2 weeks post-injection.*

What are the common side effects of Juvederm Voluma XC?

The most common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.

What can be done to prevent bruising?

Our physicians recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.

Can Juvederm Voluma be removed if I don’t like the results?

Juvederm Voluma can be reversed by injection of hyaluronidase in the rare event of a problem. However, in the hands of an experienced provider, the need to reverse treatment should be extremely rare.*
